New Hub Opens
September 8th, 2015
A £12million state-of-the-art building has opened its doors to thousands of learners from across Stoke on Trent.
Stoke on Trent College’s new Enterprise Hub building, situated at the heart of the Cauldon Campus in Shelton, is now welcoming adult learners and young people on a range of full-time and part-time courses.
It is now home to the college’s wide-range of student support services, their main reception and a range of courses. It also boasts a new coffee bar selling Costa Coffee products, innovative IT suites and training facilities, career advice and guidance services, as well as the college’s admissions teams.

Career Change

This summer 48-year-old Tatiania Ohlweiler-Seabridge was one of the latest adult learners from the area celebrating the successful completion of higher education study, thanks to Stoke on Trent College.
Tatiana was one of 64 adults who graduated from Staffordshire University, thanks to a range of university-level courses delivered by Stoke on Trent College and supported by the University. The completion of the Foundation Degree in Education, which has supported her change of career from civil servant to teacher, is now helping her gain a full-time post within a school supporting young people in the area.

Highest achiever numbers more than triple

Staff and students at Stoke on Trent College are celebrating a record year, as highest achiever numbers more than triple.
A total of 186 students have successfully completed a Level 3 Extended Diploma, which is the equivalent of 3 A –Levels, with almost half of all learners achieving higher level grades (at least one Distinction, equivalent to an A at A-Level).
Furthermore, around 1 in 3 students achieved triple Distinction or higher (14.5% higher than last year), including 19 outstanding learners attaining the highest grade achievable – triple Distinction* grades (the equivalent of 3 A*s at A-Level), almost quadrupling the number over the last two years.

Record skills success

Three more students have reached the national finals of prestigious industry competitions, making it a record year for a local college.
Natasha Bent, Kelly Deakes and Dario Hopley from Stoke on Trent College have all reached the WorldSkills UK Finals in their chosen discipline. It takes the total number of learners from Stoke on Trent College the competing in WorldSkills UK finals to 14, the most in the college’s competition history.
Each student will now take part in the WorldSKills UK Finals, which will be staged at the Birmingham NEC later this year as part of The Skills Show, an event that attracts more than 75,000 visitors.

SkillBuild Success

Stoke on Trent College has achieved unprecedented success in the regional stages of prestigious competitions which focuses on the building services.
Students competing at the 2015 West Midland heats of SkillBuild, staged at South and City College in Birmingham, scooped eight awards in bricklaying, carpentry, joinery, electrical, and painting and decorating. The trainees from Stoke-on-Trent College were so successful that they came first or second in every single category they entered.
It is a record number of winners for the college in the annual competition, which is run by Construction Industry Training Board (CITB). The students will now have an anxious wait to learn the final results nationally, before finding out if they have been selected for the SkillBuild National Finals, held at the SkillsShow in November.
