Our recruitment processes are designed to help ensure that individuals appointed to roles do not pose a risk to children, young people, or vulnerable adults. These practices are developed in line with the Department for Education Safer Recruitment Guidance, legislative requirements for the sector and Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026 (KCSIE).
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Checks
All employees appointed to Stoke on Trent College are required to undergo an Enhanced DBS Disclosure. Please note that the cost of the DBS check is payable by the individual and will be deducted from the first salary payment.
As an organisation using the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), the College complies fully with the DBS Code of Practice.
We are committed to treating all applicants fairly. A criminal record will not necessarily prevent employment; decisions are made on a case-by-case basis. The College undertakes not to discriminate unfairly against any subject of a Disclosure on the basis of conviction or other information revealed.
Pre-Employment Checks
In addition to the DBS Disclosure, all appointed staff will be subject to:
✔ Verification of the right to work in the United Kingdom
✔ Receipt of satisfactory references considered suitable by the College
✔ Verification of all relevant qualifications declared within the application
All checks must be satisfactorily completed prior to commencing employment. Successful candidates will be invited to attend a pre-employment check meeting with the Human Resources team before the appointment is confirmed.
